Important Message from Illinois American Water

This is an important notification from Illinois American Water. With the extreme cold we are experiencing, we want to remind customers to take necessary measures to prevent frozen water pipes and meters. Be sure you know where your main water shut-off is located and label it for others. Protect your property by wrapping exposed pipes with insulation and eliminate sources of cold air near any water lines. We also recommend allowing a small stream of water to run overnight to keep pipes from freezing. Collect this water for uses such as watering indoor plants or for pets. The cost of keeping a small stream of water running is very minimal compared to repairing the damage from burst water pipes. If your pipes do freeze, shut off water immediately at your main shut off. Do not attempt to thaw frozen pipes unless the water is shut off. To thaw pipes, warm the air around the pipe with a hair dryer, or space heater. DO NOT USE kerosene heaters, a torch or an open flame and do not leave space heaters unattended. Please be safe, and for more tips on preventing frozen pipes, please go to Illinoisamwater.com.

Paige Norwood Fundraiser

My name ls Paige Norwood and I am a junior in high school at Limestone Community High School. I have been selected to represent my high school at the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) for forensics. This program selects outstanding students, around the world to participate based on academics, extracurriculars, and good demonstrations of leadership qualities. It is an honor to be selected by the NSLC to enroll in the forensics program. I am very excited about this opportunity and the experience and knowledge I will gain by participating. I am writing this letter to you to inquire about receiving financial support so I would be able to attend this program.

During the program, I will have the opportunity to participate in activities to further my leadership abilities in areas such as communication, public speaking, and conflict resolution. In addition, I will be able to participate in activities based upon forensics to help me get a better understanding and it enables me to prepare for college. I will attend briefings and participate in discussions led by National and World leaders in forensics. The speakers from years past include, Dr. Jennifer Smith (Director of the Department of Forensic Science for D.C., Mr. Eugene Peters (Chief Counterterrorism and Forensic Research at the FBI), and Ms. Erin Michaels (Special Agent, Office of Forensic Support, NCIS).

The cost for me to attend the conference will be $4,000. This includes the tuition for the 9-day program in Washington D.C., room and board, food, course materials, program activities, travel to and from, and money for incidental expenses. I am requesting your help to meet this goal so I will be able to partake in this once in a lifetime experience.

Your financial support in any amount will be greatly appreciated and will make an enormous difference in helping me engage in all the NSLC has to offer. If you would like to look more into the program you can go to www.nslcleaders.org or you can call them directly at (800) 994-6752 If you have any questions for me personally, please feel free to contact me anytime with any of my information listed at the top of this letter.

Again, your assistance is greatly appreciated. I am always open to discuss any questions and concerns you have. I also welcome any suggestions or feedback you would be able to provide on this letter or fundraising. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Yours truly, Paige Norwood

HOLIDAY PARTY UPDATE!!!!

Alpha Park Holiday Party Transitions to Drive Thru Only

Covid has canceled many things, but the Holiday Party in Alpha Park continues….with a few changes.  This year, the holiday party will be a one way drive through.  Cars will enter at the pool parking lot and follow the map through the trees exiting at Airport Road.  Cars will receive a welcome packet at the entrance that includes a map, list of tree sponsors, & take home crafts for the first 200 kids.  Each welcome packet will also include stationary for children to write a letter to Santa.  Write your letters to Santa at home, then bring them back to the mailbox at the North Pole in Alpha Park by December 11th (So Santa has time to read them!).  While viewing the lighted trees, look for a free drive up pre-packaged popcorn stand as well as a free drive up hot cocoa stand.  And, watch as Santa and Mrs. Clause wave to you from the North Pole.  This event is free and open to the public on Saturday, November 28th from 5pm to 8pm.   The trees will remain lit from November 28th until December 31st.

All 100 Trees have been Sold/Sponsored!

All volunteers will practice social distancing, wear gloves and masks.  We will begin setting trees up on Friday afternoon and weather permitting, finish setting and decorating on Saturday.  Assuming good weather, anyone who sponsored a tree may begin decorating on Sunday, Nov 22.

If you have any questions, please contact Heidi or Derek.
